Guardian!

Merlin has just showed me some Guardian adverts by Wieden and Kennedy that are kind of related our D&AD work. Maybe we could tie our idea into the Guardian, and advertise the Guardian...just a thought.

Postcards

These are some mock ups for the direct mail shot part of the campaign. experimenting with embossing and debossing, playing with the idea of removing the 'lie' from the word live. Really tactile and works really well also executed well considering it was hand embossed (tried the heat press- but the card wasnt think enough and didnt make enough of an embellishment)

Inspired?!

well pretty much deflated at the minute, our moment of genius lasts only two days and was not successful at the crit, yet we strive on....
....meanwhile this moment of magic happened with that old school game of spinning two back to back images making them one!
i felt clever and proud of us today, for approx 10minutes.

improvements

Graham didn't like our idea (at all), so we decided to try and use other words, so that we weren't just focusing on rumours. We could find anything very good (or appropriate) at all. This is about the best thing that we came up with.

So we decided to go back to our idea, because we still like it, and just try to make it better. Here is the improved logo.

And we have come up with the strapline- Not all lies are this obvious. Don't believe everything you hear. Which I think works quite well to let people know what the campaign is about.

We have decided that the Live without lies one will be direct mail, the Read between the lines would be a billboard, and the See through the lies one would be an A2 poster/sticker

Although I used the word 'believe' instead of 'listen' (by accident), here is what the poster would look/sticker would look like.

One step forward, two steps back...

After the crit we have decided to look more into the believe/lies idea. Here are a few quick ideas.

I think that the last two have the most potential.

s'alright...

Yeah!

Hello!

So I was thinking about Chinese whispers, and I realised that the word 'lie' is in 'believe'. Ha Ha. So I was thinkin maybe we could do something saying that believing rumours is the same as believing lies.

But yeah, as you can see these are a bit tacky, so I think I'll leave that idea for a while. Someone's probably done something similar before anyway.

I then thought about the term grapevine, and how it was strange (apparently grapevines were used to communicate with during the American civil war). This lead me onto that song that Marvin Gaye sang.

What if Marvin heard wrong? What if his girl wasn't going to dump him, what if it was just a rumor? (who would want to dump Marvin Gaye, he has the voice of an angel...)

So anyway i thought that maybe the copy could be written from the point-of-view of his girlfriend, it could go something like this:

Get it? Because, like, hes wrong because she isn't going to dump him, and she's wrong because hes not gay, thats just his name!

Wow. So yeah, I reckon we need a name for this campaign, I was thinking maybe just calling it 'the grapevine campaign', maybe its a bit boring and obvious. But I made a quick logo anyway. It has a grape on it, cos, like, its called grapevine...

Anyway. Thats about it from me.

The Truth

If you've never seen a truely amazing piece of copy, then this is it.
totally blew me away although i some what think it killed our creativity, hey ho.
Would love to be able to produce something so mundane that when seen in a different light it totally gets the wow factor.

some initial ideas

I have been reading various essays on the internet about/deaf people. One essay was by a teacher who has recently become deaf. He believes that now he understands what it is like to be different, he is more open minded and respectful of what others have to say. Now he id deaf he is a better listener.

So I thought about maybe looking at the different ways that people listen with out hearing - such as sign language, or semaphore, etc.

Here is a QUICK mock-up of a possible poster idea.

I was also thinking of listing the various irrational reasons why someone would decide to not listen to other people, and finish with some kind of statement about something or other.....

I don't listen to politicians because they are all liars,
I don't listen to my doctor because he's foreign,
I don't listen to hippies because they need a hair cut,
I don't listen to my grandparents because they are old,
I don't listen to tramps because they should get a job,
I won't listen to you because I don't even know you.

Or something like that.

Hello there,

Me and Claire working on the Ogilvy Advertising Brief for D&AD. To see the brief, click here.

Basically, we have to encourage people to listen as opposed to just hearing, using only copy.

We chose this brief because neither of us have really done copy writing before, so it will be a challenge.

Hopefully we will updating this blog with out progress.
